“Virgen de la Barca de Muxía” Festival
Come to one of the most famous festivals in Galicia. Surrounded by symbolism and shrouded in legends, the Sanctuary of A Barca de Muxía hosts a unique celebration every Sunday following September 8, whose tradition dates back to the late Middle Ages.
The “Virgen de la Barca de Muxía” Festival brings together thousands of parishioners from all over the country and abroad every year, to entrust themselves to the Saint – and to the rocks located in the vicinity of the sanctuary – in search of a cure for their ailments. According to legend, the Virgin of the Boat appeared to the Apostle James in the area of Muxía to encourage him to continue extending his evangelizing work.
